SpaceX Launches Jason-3, Falcon 9 Attempts Landing

TODAY - Just stopping by to quickly make an announcement about the launch of Jason-3 into orbit. "Jason-3 is the fourth mission in U.S.-European series of satellite missions that measure the height of the ocean surface," reads the NASA JPL description of the mission. SpaceX's Falcon 9 hosted Jason-3 from the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California this morning, with a successful deployment being announced within the past hour.

The landing of Falcon 9 was unsuccessful, many sources citing a broken landing leg, rough seas (the area for landing being in the Pacific), and a hard landing in general. (This is new information; The stream unfortunately cut out seconds before landing information could be displayed and therefore commentated on.)

Congratulations to SpaceX and the NASA JPL for successful deployment of Jason-3 and further research on landing mechanisms. Watched the archived broadcast from SpaceX here!
